Boggs, Galonski applaud Attorney General's call to lift statute of limitations on rape
Ohio House Assistant Minority Leader Rep. Kristin Boggs (D-Columbus) andHouse Democratic Women’s Caucus Chair Rep. Tavia Galonski (D-Akron) today issued a statement following Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s announced support for ending the state’s statute of limitations on rape. Boggs and Galonski are sponsoring a proposal this legislative session to modernize Ohio’s rape code, including lifting the statute of limitations on rape.
“Ohio’s outdated criminal and civil rape codes fail victims and limit their ability to seek the justice they deserve. We are proud to continue leading the fight to ensure all victims of rape and sexual assault receive justice, and modernizing Ohio’s rape code is the first step.
“We applaud Attorney General Yost’s support for lifting the statute of limitations, and look forward to working with him and our colleagues on both sides of the aisle to see that survivors of sexual violence are heard—no matter when they come forward.”
Boggs and Galonski’s proposal would eliminate both the statute of limitations for criminal and civil sex crimes and spousal exemptions for rape, sexual battery, and other sexual offenses.
