State Rep. Teresa Fedor (D-Toledo) issued the following statement in response to calls from several State Board of Education members at today’s meeting for an independent investigation into the illegal data scrubbing done by David Hansen, Gov. Kasich’s campaign manager’s husband.

“It should come as no surprise that Superintendent Ross and Republicans on the Board of Education prefer a GOP-led investigation into the illegal data-scrubbing of failing charter school grades spearheaded by the governor’s campaign manager’s husband.

“When Columbus City Schools were plagued by a similar data-scrubbing scandal, the authorities came in with guns and badges drawn and four officials ended up convicted on felony charges. Where are those guns and badges now?

“Since this scandal broke, the public’s right to the full truth has been obstructed by Superintendent Ross and the administration. For instance, Ross maintained that Hansen – who has yet to face any legal consequences – acted alone in illegally manipulating charter school evaluations, but public records have revealed that was not the case.

“Clearly, only an outside, independent investigation will be able to uncover how deep the roots of corruption at the Ohio Department of Education run. I believe it is past time for Mr. Ross to resign, and I fully support the board’s call for an independent investigation.”
