Richardson's Federal SAVE Act Resolution Heard in House Committee
COLUMBUS – State Representative Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) presented a resolution urging Congress to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act to the House Government Oversight Committee Wednesday.
The resolution calls on Congress to preserve the right of American citizens to vote by requiring states to obtain proof of citizenship when an individual registers to vote and will require states to remove non-citizens from existing voter registries.
“The right to vote is a cherished and sacred right of Americans and the framework of safeguarding our self-governance,” Richardson said. “Across the country, this right is being infringed upon by allowing non-citizens to register and participate in the voting process. This resolution seeks to increase the confidence of voters in our elections process.”
Individuals can provide a U.S. passport, military ID card, government-issued ID card, certified birth certificate, adoption decree, Naturalization Certificate or American Indian Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security to prove their citizenship.
House Concurrent Resolution 18 now awaits additional hearings in the House Government Oversight Committee.
