Richardson Pushes Congress to Protect Election Integrity
COLUMBUS – State Representative Tracy Richardson’s (R-Marysville) resolution urging Congress to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act has passed through the Ohio House Wednesday.
Introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, the SAVE Act will protect and preserve the right of American citizens to vote by requiring states to obtain proof of citizenship when an individual registers to vote and will require states to remove non-citizens from existing voter registries.
“The right to vote is a cherished and sacred right of Americans and the framework of
safeguarding our self-governance,” said Richardson. “This resolution encourages a common-sense path to ending unconstitutional, non-U.S. citizen voting and is necessary to fortify national elections and ensure their validity.”
Individuals can provide a U.S. passport, military ID card, government-issued ID card, certified birth certificate, adoption decree, Naturalization Certificate or American Indian Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security to prove their citizenship.
House Concurrent Resolution 18 will now head to the Ohio Senate for further consideration.
