Richardson Congratulates MCI's Lyneal Wainwright as 2020 Warden of the Year

MARION – State Rep. Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) today honored Marion Correctional Institution’s (MCI) Lyneal Wainwright for receiving the 2020 Warden of the Year award from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. 

During the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, MCI became a national hot spot with 80% of its inmates and staff testing positive for the virus. Wainwright displayed exemplary leadership and compassion in implementing ever-evolving health and safety protocols that reduced the spread of COVID-19 in the facility. 

“I am thrilled to congratulate Warden Wainwright on this well-deserved award,” said Richardson. “Her diligence and unwavering work ethic has protected MCI inmates and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our community is very fortunate to have her and her supportive staff serving in their roles.”

Wainwright has led the MCI as warden since 2016. During her time at the facility, she has supported ongoing normalcy efforts, including father daughter dances, musical performances, foreign language initiatives, and programs that promote business skills.

Richardson visited MCI today to present Wainwright a commendation for receiving the 2020 Warden of the Year award.
