Richardson Commemorates National POW/MIA Recognition Day
MARYSVILLE – State Rep. Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) today observed National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which honors America's prisoners of war, those who are still missing in action and their families.
“Today, we pause and remember the bravery and sacrifices of our veterans, especially those who never made it home,” said Richardson. “We will never forget the POWs/MIAs who have paid a heavy price for our freedom. The POW/MIA flag is a public sign of our commitment to honor our POWs and our determination to bring our missing service men and service women home.”
National POW/MIA Recognition Day was established in 1979 and is commemorated each year on the third Friday of September. Throughout the nation, ceremonies are held on this day to honor those who were held captive and returned, as well as those who remain missing.
Richardson attended an event today commemorating National POW/MIA Recognition Day in Marysville. Mayor Henk Berbee and other local leaders also attended. She delivered remarks on the importance of this day.
In 2018, House Bill 254 was signed into law, which requires certain buildings to display the POW/MIA flag on Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, National POW/MIA Recognition Day, and Veterans' Day to ensure that their memory and sacrifice is never forgotten.
