Legislation Recognizing the Honor and Remember Flag Passes House Committee
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Tracy Richardson (R-Marysville) today announced that bipartisan legislation recognizing the Honor and Remember Flag in Ohio has been approved by the House Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Committee.
House Bill 406 would designate the Honor and Remember Flag as the official symbol of Ohio’s concern and commitment to our fallen service members. It also requires the flag to be displayed at the Ohio Statehouse on Memorial Day.
“This legislation upholds Ohio’s commitment to honoring and remembering those in the armed forces who have lost their lives while serving, as well as the families of these fallen heroes,” said Richardson. “Recognizing the Honor and Remember Flag as an official symbol would help educate and raise public awareness of the sacrifice that was given for this flag.”
In addition, H.B. 406 allows the Honor and Remember Flag to be displayed at public buildings and any location during a military memorial service.
The Department of Ohio VFW, Blue Skies for the Good Guys and Gals Warrior Foundation, and American Legion Department of Ohio voiced their support for the legislation. The measure is joint-sponsored with Joe Miller (D-Amherst).
The bill now awaits full consideration on the House floor.
