Reps. Denson, Schmidt Introduce Legislation to Expand Access to Breast Cancer Screenings

COLUMBUS - State Reps. Sedrick Denson (D-Cincinnati) and Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland) this week introduced House Bill (HB) 619, legislation to expand access to breast cancer screenings in Ohio by removing common financial barriers.

“This bill signifies hope and progress for countless families across our state,” said Rep. Denson. “By eliminating financial obstacles, we can improve the opportunity for early detection and better outcomes for all Ohioans.”

“Early detection of breast cancer saves lives,” said Rep. Schmidt. “This legislation will remove barriers and increase access to critical medical care.”

Key provisions of the bill are as follows:

Removes the current cost-sharing requirement for patients receiving a screening;
Removes the reimbursement cap for providers;
Expands coverage for diagnostic screenings.

HB 619 awaits a House committee assignment.
