Rep. Denson Commends Mayor Aftab Pureval of Cincinnati for Urging Governor to Enact Commonsense Gun Solutions
COLUMBUS — State Rep. Sedrick Denson (D-Cincinnati) today commends Mayor Aftab Pureval of Cincinnati for signing the recent Ohio Mayor's Alliance’s letter to Governor DeWine calling for solutions to gun violence and youth access to firearms. Mayor Pureval joined a coalition of mayors from Ohio’s 31 largest cities to voice their concerns with the ongoing gun violence epidemic harming Ohio’s citizens.
“Mayor Pureval’s leadership on tackling gun violence, bolstered by the Ohio Mayor's Alliance, is a vital step in addressing the severe gun violence epidemic in Ohio. This collaborative effort is a significant move toward ensuring community safety and creating a future where all Ohioans, especially our children, can thrive without fear,” said Rep. Denson.
The letter includes five solution-oriented recommendations for combating gun violence, including calls for research support, promoting gun violence awareness, enhancing law enforcement data sharing, and re-engaging legislative leaders on needed state law changes.
As part of its People First agenda, House Democrats have introduced several legislative solutions around promoting gun safety measures supported by a bipartisan majority of Ohioans including:
- Keeping Our Survivors Safe Act (Reps. Grim, Munira)
- Keep Every Home Safe Act (Rep. Brewer)
- Commonsense Concealed Carry (Reps. Brown, Isaacsohn)
- Universal Background Checks Act (Reps. Robinson, Isaacsohn)
- Ohio Task Force on Gun Violence (Rep. Brewer)
