Rep. Denson Announces Expanded, Back-to-School Tax-Free Holiday
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Sedrick Denson (D-Cincinnati) today announced that the expanded, back-to-school Ohio sales tax holiday starts today, Tuesday, July 30th through Thursday, August 8th. During the tax-free holiday, there will be no state or local sales or use tax on all tangible personal property that is $500 or less
“This tax-free holiday is a great opportunity for Ohio families to save on essential back-to-school supplies," said Rep. Denson. "Putting people first means reducing the financial burden on parents and guardians, ensuring that every student has the tools they need to succeed in the upcoming school year.”
In 2018, state lawmakers passed legislation making this three-day, back-to-school sales tax holiday a recurring holiday each year.
In 2023, Am. Sub. House Bill (HB) 33 expanded the three-day sales tax holiday to at least three days that includes the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of August each year if a budget surplus exists.
