Wiggam Continues Promise of Support for Wayne County First Responders
State Representative Scott Wiggam (R-Wayne County) has long been a supporter of first responders in Wayne County. That support continued with the passage of this year’s capital budget and more funding coming to the district.
Wiggam had a goal of securing $1.5 million in funding for the improvement of Wayne County’s fire and rescue services during his eight years as a state representative. With the most recent funding of $300,000 for the Wayne County Fire and Rescue driver’s training course in this year’s capital budget, Wiggam has eclipsed that goal securing $1.55 million in total.
“As your State Representative it has been an honor to work alongside you,” Wiggam said. “I believe first responders are a major part of our community’s backbone, and your willingness to put yourself in harm’s way in order to protect others must always be recognized. This funding will help keep our first responders safe as they continue to serve the people of the 77th House District.”
Wiggam secured $500,000 in the 2017 capital budget for the Wayne County Fire and Rescue Burn Building to provide additional training for firefighters. In 2021 Wiggam brought $750,000 to Fredericksburg for the installation of a new MARCS to improve communications across all first responder’s emergency radio networks.
“Proper training and resources is the key to success for first responders,” Wiggam added. “This funding will help them obtain more training, better preparing them an emergency response and give them the assets needed to perform their responsibilities when their skills are needed the most.”
Wiggam has represented Wayne County for the past eight years and will be stepping down from the position due to term limits.
