McClain Promotes Rail Safety Week

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Riordan McClain (R-Upper Sandusky) reminds Ohioans to make good decisions around tracks and trains during Rail Safety Week, September 18-24. 

Every three hours in the U.S., a person or a vehicle is hit by a train. The awareness week aims to reduce collisions, fatalities, and injuries at highway-rail crossings, prevent trespassing on or near railroad tracks, and save lives. 

“It takes all of us to make crossings safe. Motorists must be aware and cautious when crossing, and the rail industry must invest in the resources that allow them to operate safely. We also must work to reduce at grade crossings throughout the state. Railroad tracks and crossings can be dangerous when they are used improperly as a place to play or when motorists go across the tracks when the gates are down,” McClain said. “I encourage Ohioans to make safe choices around railroad tracks and trains and watch for warning signs.”
