Rep. Baker Applauds Signing of Bill Regarding Hospital Violence Prevention, Training Security Plans
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Rachel B. Baker (D-Cincinnati) last week celebrated the recent signing of House Bill (HB) 452 by Governor Mike DeWine. Rep. Baker joined Rep. Andrea White (R-Kettering) as primary sponsors of this bill regarding hospital violence prevention and training security plans.
“The sustainability of healthcare in Ohio relies on safe working conditions for our direct care providers,” said Rep. Baker. “Instances of violence have become so common that many healthcare providers state that it is ‘just part of the job.’ This is unacceptable and as a state it is critical that we work to support those providing direct care to patients. HB 452 is an important step in addressing workplace violence in healthcare settings.”
This piece of legislation will require each hospital system to establish a security plan for preventing workplace violence and specify various requirements for the plans, including that the plans be developed by an interdisciplinary team that includes direct care providers and that the plan is reviewed and evaluated annually. The legislation requires that hospitals have a workplace violence incident reporting system that clearly defines when incidents should be reported to law enforcement and establishes the ability of hospital security personnel to access online security training previously only available to Ohio peace officers.
