Rep. Robinson Releases Statement On Passage Of Solon Superintendent Joe Regano
COLUMBUS— State Rep. Phil Robinson (D-Solon) today issued the following statement on the passage of Joseph Regano, superintendent of the Solon City School District, who died of cancer Sunday morning.
“My condolences to the family and friends of Joe Regano— he will be greatly missed. It is a tragedy to lose someone like Joe. From the very beginning of his career teaching business at Euclid schools and eventually becoming the business manager at their central office, Joe showed that type of excellence that allowed him to become a superintendent within just a few years of joining the Solon City School District. Through innovation and hard work, Joe’s 35 years of leadership of Solon schools helped make it not just one of the top school districts in Northeast Ohio, but one of the top school districts in both the state and the entire country. Joe did this by bringing teachers, students, parents, school board members, community leaders and many others together in collaboration to expand and enhance Solon schools.
But Joe didn’t stop there, he didn’t just care about supporting teachers and building success for Solon’s public school students. Joe was an advocate of public education and the future of all Ohio children. In his long career before I even came to serve in Columbus, Joe came to speak to my colleagues and predecessors to defend and promote a high quality education in our public schools. His devotion to education was exemplary and something we all need to strive toward.
He didn’t believe in the formality of being called Superintendent Regano, he asked me to call him Joe, which was the type of guy he was. It won’t just be his family, friends and the students and staff of Solon schools that will miss him. I will miss him as both an advocate of public education and as a friend, and I, along with the entirety of the communities of Solon and Glenwillow, will miss him as a leader and a friend of our children’s future. Rest in peace Joe.”
