Rep. Robinson announces live stream capabilities in all House Committees
State Rep. Phil Robinson (D-Solon) today announced the installation of cameras in four additional House hearing rooms, signaling the completion of a major project to offer live coverage of all House committee meetings for the first time, fulfilling a long-time Democratic priority of a more open and transparent committee process.
“For anyone that can’t afford to take off work during the day or lives too far away to attend committee meetings, these live streams and archived footage of hearings provide them the chance to see an important part of the legislative process,” said Rep. Robinson. “This step is critical to increasing transparency and making the overall process more democratic and open to the public. Everyone has the right to know what their legislators are up to in Columbus.”
For years, Democratic lawmakers pushed for increased video access throughout the Ohio Statehouse in an effort to increase government transparency, and until this year, had not seen any movement in the Republican-controlled chamber.
