Year in Review

Looking Back at 2019
January 7, 2020
P. Scott Lipps News

As we start a new year, I want to take time to reflect on the past year. As your state representative, I’ve been working hard at the Statehouse representing you and Warren County. I was fortunate enough to serve on the Health and Human Services Subcommittee during the operating budget, thanks to the appointment from Speaker Householder. In the budget, the General Assembly allocated millions of dollars for multi-system youth, which would address problems like child custody relinquishment and help Ohio’s most at-risk children. It also included a raise for Direct Support Providers and funding for the Special Olympics, human trafficking prevention and adaptive sports programs. The budget also provided meaningful tax relief for Ohio’s families.

When the House returned to session following the budget, I was appointed Chairman of the House Health Committee. This new role has presented challenging and exciting new experiences to our office. We have enjoyed facilitating such an important committee and are using this new position to continue to fight the battle against the greed of PBM’s, lowering prescription drug costs, and working for our disabled population.

Additionally, our office has been working on several pieces of legislation. House Bill 203 passed out of the House unanimously and is a simple, yet effective way to increase access to proper oral health care. Outside of our legislative goals, we also hosted fourth graders and their parents from all over the county at the Statehouse for a “Be a Legislator for a Day” contest! The fourth graders entered to win by submitting an essay about a famous Warren County resident.

Back in the district, 2019 has been filled with exciting new developments. In September, I was able to attend the grand opening of the Springboro Performing Arts Center. This project was successful because Warren County knows how to come together and get things done! The county also broke ground on the new Warren County Jail, Sheriff’s office, unveiled the Carlisle Station Historical Marker and redeveloped the Peter’s Cartridge site, Our county has been busy and successful - and it is all thanks to the wonderful citizens, elected officials and volunteers. I am grateful to represent such a dedicated and hard-working county.

We look forward to the New Year and already have plans in the works to make it the best year yet!
