Santucci's EMS Training, Bridge Designation Legislation Signed into Law

COLUMBUS— State Representative Nick Santucci’s (R-Niles) legislation to establish a process for requesting that the State Board of Emergency Medical, Fire, and Transportation Services add new EMS training or continuing education material has been signed into law by Governor Mike DeWine.

The legislation, which passed through the House in June, will allow for new training or continuing education topics to be submitted to the State Board of Emergency Medical, Fire, and Transportation Services. If adopted by the board, they will then be added to the educational requirements for EMS personnel.

“I’m grateful to see this bill get signed by the Governor,” said Santucci. “This is an important piece of legislation that can better equip our emergency personnel to save lives by allowing critical knowledge to be shared among the emergency medical community. I am proud to support our EMS and am grateful for their service to families and communities across Ohio.”

Current law only allows for the State Board of Emergency Medical, Fire, and Transportation Services to establish training and continued education requirements, generally developed under the direction of a physician who specializes in emergency medicine.

Additionally, Santucci’s legislation honoring veterans from Vienna Township in Trumbull County was also recently signed into law. House Bill 81, into which was amended Santucci’s House Bill 286, will designate the Niles-Vienna Road bridge spanning State Route 11 as the “Vienna Township Veterans Bridge.”

Both bills will go into effect 90 days from the time they were signed by Governor DeWine.
