COLUMBUS— State Representative Nick Santucci (R-Niles) announces the creation of a bipartisan Lake to River Caucus.

The recent introduction of the new JobsOhio Lake to River Region highlighted the importance of fostering unity and collaboration in Northeast Ohio, a concept that has also taken root amongst the members of the Ohio House of Representatives. With the creation of the Lake to River Caucus, members hope to streamline collaboration and open new discussions about how to support attracting, retaining and expanding business in the new region.

“I was excited to hear about the creation of the new JobsOhio Lake to River Region and believe this is a unique opportunity to attract new businesses to this part of the State. There is so much potential for growth in Northeast Ohio, and it’s great to see JobsOhio recognize this,” Santucci said. “In the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman area, the annual average unemployment rate dropped from 5.7% in 2019 to 4.2% in 2023, and new businesses are opening every day. We as legislators need to work together to keep the momentum going by supporting each other and send a clear message that the areas from Lake Erie all the way to the Mahoning River are open to attract new businesses and jobs to our region.”

Representative Santucci will chair the caucus, with Representative Tex Fischer (R-Boardman) serving as Vice Chair. Other confirmed participants are Representatives Sarah Fowler Arthur (R-Ashtabula), David Thomas (R-Jefferson), Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown), and Monica Robb-Blasdel (R-Columbiana).

“Collaboration is key to making sure our region gets what we deserve. We have a great group of representatives in this region, and I couldn't be more excited to work with each of them to help move our communities forward. Getting on the same page and working as a group will put us in the best position possible to be effective advocates for the Mahoning Valley and serve the people of our districts,” Fischer said.

The caucus is expected to meet monthly.
