Fischer, Santucci Introduce Income Tax Deduction for Overtime Wages
COLUMBUS— State Representative Tex Fischer (R-Boardman) and Majority Whip Nick Santucci (R-Niles) have introduced legislation that will allow a state income tax deduction for overtime wages.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the unemployment rate in Ohio rose, climbing over 16.0% in 2020, as many people were unable to continue working. While Ohio has been successful in significantly lowering the unemployment rate since that time, there remains a constant and vital necessity to fill workforce needs.
“The strength of our economy depends on the people who put in the hours to fill critical needs in our workforce,” Santucci said. “This legislation is a way to reward those people for their efforts, and to incentivize people to continue coming to work and working hard.”
This legislation has not yet been assigned to a committee.
