Rep. Grim Announces $2M for the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Michele Grim (D-Toledo) today announced that the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board, led by the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio, has received the maximum of $2M from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to fortify local safety nets for youth at increased risk for homelessness.
“Youth experiencing homelessness are particularly vulnerable to additional dangers and abuses. It is a powerful opportunity that local organizations such as the Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board will be able to use this federal funding to intercede on young folks’ lives and work to redirect them to a path of stability, resources, and self-sufficiency that will benefit them for life,” said Rep. Grim. “All Ohioans, especially our youth, should have the opportunity and resources to continuously improve their lives for the better.”
This funding is essential to target and end the cycle of homelessness with youth populations in the county. Certain youth, such as Black and LGBTQ+ youth are unfortunately overrepresented in the homeless community. The Toledo Lucas County Homelessness Board is dedicated to using this funding to address these communities specifically, as well as the creation of an advisory board, which will be composed of young people with these lived experiences.
