Rep. McNally Supports Striking Youngstown Teachers, Calls for Full Repeal of Academic Distress Commission
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today released the following statement supporting the Youngstown City School District teachers whose union is fighting for better working conditions and called for a legislative solution to the invalid Academic Distress Commission:
“Teachers want to be in the classroom with our kids. They want to be teaching. They need and deserve a negotiating partner who is willing to sit down and finalize a contract,” said Rep McNally. “My office is exploring what we can do to bring clarity to outdated and invalid precedent concerning Academic Distress Commissions. Let me be clear: this law experimented with our kids’ future and, unlike our educators, it never had the students and their interests in the forefront. I remain committed to having anything related to Academic Distress Commissions completely repealed in state law and will continue working toward that goal.
