COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today introduced House Bill (HB) 523, bipartisan legislation regarding the creation and display of a poster containing information on benefits and services for veterans.

“We know that time after serving can land hard for some and knowing how to get help and what help is available can be life changing,” said Rep. McNally. “I’m proud to do my part to give back to those who give so much to our country.”

The bipartisan legislation was introduced by Representatives Adam Holmes (R-Nashport) and McNally following concerns for needed outreach and additional avenues to reach veterans and share information on benefits and services available to them. HB 523 will allow, not require, employers to display an informational poster created by the Ohio Director of Commerce in consultation with the Ohio Director of Veterans Services.

The supportive resources listed on the poster include:

  • Programs provided by the Department of Veteran’s services
  • Veteran’s Administration (VA) Crisis Line
  • Veteran-focused assistance with substance abuse and mental health treatment programs
  • Education, workforce, and training resources
  • Tax benefits and exemptions
  • Legal services available

The bill now awaits assignment to a committee and first hearing for further consideration.
