Rep. McNally announces TANF dollars for 59th district

Funding will support struggling families and workforce development

COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced the allocation of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program funding, assisting struggling families, supporting children, and encouraging workforce development for initiatives in Ohio’s 59th district. 

“It is great to see that the funding granted to our region will go towards programs that not only support families as a whole but also, our youth directly,” said Rep. McNally. “I’m eager to see the profound impact it will have on the community.”

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) is a federally funded, state-led program. Most widely recognized as welfare, TANF helps families financially in numerous ways through assistance with food, housing, home energy, childcare, and job training. 

The $10,151,250 total in statewide funds that were released today are for FY25 as part of HB 33, the biennial budget. Recipients who will be using their awards on initiatives targeting residents in Ohio’s 59th district include:  

  • Up to $100,000 will be used to assist the Brightside Project in providing resources and social-emotional development support to eligible children in Columbiana County.
  • Up to $935,000 will be used to assist Operation Warm in providing new coats and shoes to eligible children statewide.
  • Up to $300,000 will be used to assist Ohio Association of Foodbanks in providing summertime food assistance to eligible children statewide.
  • Up to $1,000,000 will be used to assist Ohio Suicide Prevention in providing suicide prevention resources and strategies to eligible families in Franklin, Butler, Clermont, Cuyahoga, Erie, Gallia, Greene, Hamilton, Hocking, Jackson, Licking, Lorain, Lucas, Mahoning, Marion, Meigs, Montgomery, Morgan, Stark, Summit, Washington, and Wayne counties.
  • Up to $1,000,000 will be used to assist Ohio Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs in providing support services to eligible youth at the following clubs: West Chester/Liberty, Greater Cincinnati, Dayton, Massillon, Youngstown, Wooster, Central Ohio, Northeast Ohio, Toledo, and Washington County.
