Rep. McNally Announces $250,000 in TANF Grants for local organizations
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Lauren McNally (D-Youngstown) today announced $250,000 in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) grants for entities in Ohio’s 59th district, with a focus on assisting struggling families and encouraging workforce development.
“I’m happy to see that the funding coming to our region will support programs that can have a generational impact, with a specific focus on helping children develop and learn,” said Rep. McNally.
The total $13.5 million in federal funding permitted by the operating budget passed by members of the General Assembly has four permittable purposes:
· Providing assistance to needy families so they can be cared for in their own homes or those of relatives.
· Ending dependence of needy parents on government benefits by promoting job preparation, work and marriage
· Preventing and reducing out-of-wedlock pregnancies and establishing annual goals for such prevention and reduction.
· Encouraging the formation and maintenance of two-parent families.
Recipients of funds in Ohio’s 59th district include:
· $100,000 for The Brightside Project to assist in providing resources and social-emotional development support to eligible children in Columbiana County.
· $50,000 for The Early Childhood Resource Center to assist in providing tutoring and mentorship to eligible families in Stark, Summit, Mahoning, Medina, Trumbull, and Portage counties.
· $100,000 for Price Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church to assist in providing education and personal development training to eligible families in Mahoning County.
