COLUMBUS – State Rep. Jon Cross (R-Kenton) today announced House Bill 621, the Ohio Business Fairness Act, has been approved by House State and Local Government Committee. The legislation creates competitive fairness by allowing small businesses to operate during a public health emergency.

“Ohio has taken an important step forward in protecting and supporting all businesses throughout the state,” said Cross. “Government should not be picking winners and losers, and this legislation will give our small businesses the ability to fairly compete and maintain operations.”

H.B. 621 allows any business that can meet proper compliance and safety standards from a government order or regulation to continue operations or reopen.

“If, worst-case scenario, Ohio sees another lockdown, these businesses deserve to have the ability to stay open and keep their employees on the job,” added Cross.

The legislation is supported by the National Federation of Independent Businesses, Ohio Council of Retail Merchants, and Ohio Small Business Council.

The House State and Local Government Committee approved the legislation on Tuesday, November 10th. It now awaits consideration for a full vote on the House floor.
