City of Kenton Awarded $5 Million Water Infrastructure Grant

COLUMBUS—State Representative Jon Cross (R-Kenton) is pleased to announce that the City of Kenton will receive an Ohio BUILDS (Broadband, Utilities, and Infrastructure for Local Development Success) Water Infrastructure Grant.

Kenton, located in Hardin County, will receive a $5,000,000 in funding to complete phase 2 of water improvements to Kenton’s Historic Courthouse District infrastructure. Improvements include updates to nine blocks of downtown’s sewer, storm, and water mains.

 “Water infrastructure is a critical piece of the foundation of our community and it is worth investing in,” said Cross. “By investing in infrastructure, we’re preserving the importance of the small businesses and government entities in our downtown courthouse district for the next 100 years.” 

During the fifth round of allocations, the Ohio BUILDS Program awarded a total of $135 million that will fund infrastructure projects throughout 64 Ohio counties.

The Ohio BUILDS water infrastructure program is a continuation of the H2Ohio initiative launched in 2019. The Ohio House of Representatives last month passed the final version of the State Operating Budget for fiscal years 2024-25, which includes a $60 million investment each fiscal year into H2Ohio to support water quality efforts across the state.
