Republicans Power Grab a Continued Assault on People's Right to Hold Government Accountable

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Jodi Whitted (D-Madeira) today released the following statement following the passage of the undemocratic House Bill 1 through the Ohio House of Representatives: 

“I am extremely disappointed in the passage of HB 1. The governor called for a special session to guarantee President Biden’s appearance on the ballot in November. This was used as a bargaining chip by House Republicans to pass more harmful legislation. At the surface, HB 1 is about foreign money in Ohio election campaigns; however, its real purpose is to make it harder for citizen-led initiatives to make it onto the ballot. Citizen led initiatives are a critical check on the legislative process and an assurance that the people’s voices are heard. HB 1 is an undemocratic power grab,” said Rep. Whitted.
