Rep. Whitted Celebrates Pride Month, Opposes Anti-Trans Legislation
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Jodi Whitted (D-Madeira) today recognizes Pride Month and Ohio’s LGBTQ+ vibrant and diverse community. House Democrats are committed to putting people first by opposing anti-LGTBQ+ legislation and supporting marginalized communities.
“To me, Pride is about loving and accepting yourself for who you are and who you want to be. Ohio should be a place where everyone feels safe to be who they truly are. We have seen a lot of hateful legislation recently that are specifically targeting transgender youth. It is unacceptable. I want to encourage people to get involved and continue fighting for a more inclusive, more accepting Ohio,” said Rep. Whitted.
Anti-trans legislation such as the Don’t Say Gay Bill (House Bill 8), the Bully Trans Kids Act (House Bill 68 & 6), and the Trans Bathroom Discrimination Act (House Bill 183) have been introduced in Ohio. These bills would destroy Ohioans civil rights and set our state backwards, jeopardizing the work activists, citizens, and leaders have done to make Ohio a welcoming and safe state for all.
Meanwhile, House Democrats continue to put people first and will always stand with the LGTBQ+ community this Pride Month, and every month. Championing legislation such as the Ohio Fairness Act, The Anti-Bullying Act, and the Anti-Conversion Therapy Act that protects their rights and recognizes them as vital members of our communities.
