Powell Supports Vaccine Choice and Anti-Discrimination Act
State Rep. Jena Powell (R-Arcanum) announces her support for House Bill 248, otherwise known as the Vaccine Choice and Anti-Discrimination Act. The legislation had its first hearing earlier today within the House Health Committee.
The measure protects individuals who choose not to be vaccinated from discrimination due to vaccine status.
“Vaccines should be a personal health decision, but not mandated in order for Ohioans to be able to have the opportunity to get back to a sense of normalcy,” said Powell. “I applaud Representative Gross’s testimony today and I look forward to seeing this bill move forward through the legislative process.”
Under House Bill 248, individuals who decline any vaccine will still be able to function and operate in the state just as those who have been given a vaccine. The bill also would prevent all entities in the state of Ohio from discriminatory treatment of citizens based on their vaccination status.
Powell sat down with the bill sponsor, State Representative Jennifer Gross, earlier this month to have an informative discussion on the impact of the bill.
H.B. 248 awaits additional hearings in the House Health Committee.
