Powell Sends a Letter to Ohio Workers on Vaccine Choice Legislation

August 12, 2021
Jena Powell News

COLUMBUS – State Representative Jena Powell (R-Arcanum) today issued the following letter to Ohio workers regarding House Bill 248:

Dear Ohio Workers,

House Bill 248, the Vaccine Choice and Anti-Discrimination Act, was introduced in the General Assembly on April 6, 2021. I fully support this bill.

H.B. 248 would prevent any private or public entity from discriminatory treatment of Ohioans based on their vaccination status. The legislation prohibits private or public entities from mandating, requiring, or requesting that an individual receive a vaccine, and prevents employers from inquiring about an individual’s vaccination status.

Many of my colleagues and I saw that vaccine mandates were going to be an issue for both private and public sector workers. We saw that the Biden administration was going to be pushing for mandatory vaccinations, which is why Representative Jennifer Gross had enough foresight to introduce H.B. 248, and is willing to work with the committee and members of the House and Senate on this crucial piece of legislation.

On August 3rd, I asked for leadership to bring us back into session to discuss H.B. 248 and to pass legislation to protect private and public workers in Ohio from forced vaccinations.

The fight is not over.

I will continue to fight to protect your rights. I will continue to fight to move forward H.B. 248 or a similar piece of legislation that will protect public and private workers from mandatory COVID-19 vaccines.

Sincerely,
Jena Powell, State Representative
