COLUMBUS - State Rep. Ismail Mohamed (D-Columbus) today announced that nearly $29.5M in awards have been announced to help improve housing access in Ohio. The funding is part of the first round of the Welcome Home Ohio program (WHO), which is investing a total of $100M in grants over two years to help landbanks purchase, rehabilitate, or build qualifying residential properties for income-eligible Ohioans.

“Widespread access to safe and affordable housing starts with opportunities like the Welcome Home Ohio grant program,” said Rep. Mohamed. “An investment in the development or restoration of dilapidated buildings today will tomorrow become a roof over someone’s head that allows them to provide for their family and find success in our state. There has been an array of housing issues at the forefront of our minds this General Assembly and the WHO program is an encouraging step in the right direction.”

The Welcome Home Ohio program was created in partnership with the Ohio General Assembly in the biennium budget bill, House Bill 33. In total, $29,482,200 in Welcome Home Ohio funding will be awarded to entities in 17 counties to support the creation of 263 owner-occupied, single-family homes.
