State Representative Gayle Manning Sworn in as Speaker Pro Tempore of the Ohio House of Representatives

Columbus, OH — Representative Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) made history today as she was sworn in as Speaker Pro Tempore of the Ohio House of Representatives, becoming the first woman in Ohio's history to hold the position in the Ohio House. Representative Manning was elected to the position unanimously by her colleagues.

As Speaker Pro Tempore, Rep. Manning will serve as the second-ranking member of the Ohio House leadership team, assisting Speaker Matt Huffman in managing legislative operations and advancing the chamber’s agenda. Her appointment marks a significant milestone in the Ohio House’s history, underscoring her deep commitment to the people of Ohio.

“Gayle Manning is a dedicated public servant whose leadership, experience, and vision make her an excellent choice for this historic role,” said newly elected Ohio House Speaker Matt Huffman. “Her work ethic and bipartisan approach have earned the respect of her colleagues, and I look forward to working closely with her as we advance policies that benefit all Ohioans.”

Rep. Manning, a former educator with deep roots in Lorain County, brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served in both the Ohio House and Senate during her career. She has been a tireless advocate for education reform, economic development, and community investment.
