Lorain County Awarded Brownfield Grant for Economic Development
COLUMBUS – State Representative Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) announces The Lorain County Land Reutilization Corporation has received more than $800,000 in Brownfield Remediation Grants from the state.
The funding has been awarded for asbestos abatement and demolish of a former high school for the development of an affordable senior housing unit.
“These grants are critical for local governments to remediate abandoned and potentially hazardous sites that can then be turned into useful plots for the growth of their communities,” said Manning. “I’m pleased to see these funds being used to help Lorain County’s senior population with stable, affordable housing.”
Funding for the project is awarded through the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program, which is funded through the General Assembly’s operating budget.
The Lorain County project is apart of $82.1 million awarded throughout Ohio for the clean up industrial, commercial and institutional brownfield sites that are abandoned, idled or underutilized due to a known or potential release of hazardous substances or petroleum. Following site remediation, properties can be redeveloped to revitalize neighborhoods and attract new economic development.
