Click Encourages Local Farmers to Seek Ohio's Grain Indemnity Fund

State Rep. Gary Click (R-Vickery) encourages local farmers throughout the 88th Ohio House District to seek assistance through the Ohio Grain Indemnity Fund. With possible outstanding grain obligations within the region for farmers, Click wants to point them in the right direction.

“This will assist our farmers in Sandusky and Seneca Counties with a remedy with any possible grain obligations they may have or additional obligations they could receive – the Ohio Grain Indemnity Fund should help correct this issue for them,” said Click.

The Ohio Grain Indemnity Fund was created in 1983 to reimburse farmers when a licensed handler becomes insolvent. Since the fund was established, it has reimbursed farmers more than $17.7 million and is funded through a half-cent per bushel assessment on grain marketed at licensed elevators.

The law also now gives priority to the automatic lien established and held by the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) in the event of a grain handler’s failure or insolvency. Claims to the indemnity fund are handled through ODA’s Grain Feed & Seed Section in conjunction with the recommendation of the Ohio Commodity Advisory Commission.

Farmers that could have outstanding grain obligations, please call ODA at 614-728-6410 or toll free at 800-282-1955.
