COLUMBUS – State Representative Gary Click (R-Vickery) is pleased to report that House Bill 353, a bill co-sponsored with State Representative Jessica Miranda, has been reported out of the Ohio House Higher Education and Career Readiness Committee with a vote of 12-0.

This legislation, known as the “Testing Your Faith Act,” will enact a section of the Ohio Revised Code to require each state institution of higher education to adopt a policy providing students with religious accommodations.

Throughout Ohio, there is much religious diversity and that fact remains true with the students throughout our state.

“Individuals pursuing higher education face many necessary challenges and stressors that build their character and confidence,” said Click. “However, one conflict that they should not have to face is the decision between academic excellence and religious fidelity.”

I strongly believe that no students should be required to jeopardize their academic standing in order to observe a religious holiday, added Click.

House Bill 353 will now await its place on the House Floor for a vote.
