Harrison County Leads State in Dolly Patron's Imagination Library of Ohio Participation
COLUMBUS- State Representative Don Jones (R-Freeport) announced that Harrison County leads the state in enrollment in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio, with 79% of eligible kids signed up.
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio mails kids one free book each month until their 5th birthday. Any child in Ohio between birth and age 5 can sign up for this free program.
The Puskarich Public Library in Cadiz, Ohio, administers the local Harrison County Imagination program.
“The Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Ohio helps build family bonds centered around reading and sharing books together,” said Sandi Thompson, Director of the Puskarich Public Library. “This program increases early literacy skills and lights up children’s faces when they receive their special book in the mailbox. The program is backed by solid evidence that shows an educational advantage by participating children entering kindergarten.”
In addition to the county’s high enrollment, the Harrison County Commissioners pledged $120,000 to the Harrison County Imagination Library Fund. Together, the legislature and the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio will provide a 50% match for the commissioner’s contributions.
“Reading to young people improves their vocabulary, strengthens listening skills, and unlocks creativity,” said Jones. “Having our commissioners invest in the Harrison County Imagination Library Fund will ensure this program will be available in our area for years to come.”
