Bill to Provide Financial Assistance to Areas Impacted by Severe Drought Conditions Sent to Ohio Governor
COLUMBUS—The Ohio Senate yesterday concurred with House amendments to Senate Bill 54, announced State Rep. Don Jones (R-Freeport).
Incorporated into the bill was House Bill 683, legislation sponsored by Jones to provide $10 million to the Department of Agriculture to be used towards drought mitigation efforts. The funding will be administered through local Soil and Water districts.
“This bill is a direct response to the impact of extreme and exceptional drought conditions that has plagued eastern, southeastern, and southern Ohio,” said Jones. “I appreciate my colleagues’ swift response to ensure Ohio farmers receive immediate relief and are well equipped as we head into the winter months.”
Senate Bill 54 now awaits a signature from the Governor.
