Rep. Adam Miller (D-Columbus) today voted in opposition to two bills opponents say would make schools and communities less safe and fail to address gun violence in Ohio. House Bill (HB) 99 would allow school districts to arm teachers in the classroom without adequate training or safe storage requirements, while HB 227 would eliminate concealed weapon training and safety standards, including penalties for failing to notify police of a concealed weapon during a stop.

COLUMBUS - State Rep. Adam C. Miller (D-Columbus) today praised the House passage of Senate Bill (SB) 59, known as the Ohio Veterans’ Heritage Protection Act, that would protect cannons or other artillery, statues, monuments, memorials, or plaques that have been placed by the public to commemorate a war or service in a war. SB 59 is the companion legislation for Rep. Miller’s HB 190, which was passed by the House in June 2021.

Today, Rep. Adam Miller (D-Columbus) applauded the unanimous House passage of legislation that would provide legal protections for Guardians ad litem (GAL) and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).  They are advocates appointed by a judge to determine what is in the best interest of a party (usually a minor or adult subject to guardianship) who do not have an attorney of their own.  Currently, they are not afforded the same protections as officers of the court like judges and attorneys.

Adam Miller (D-Columbus) and Monique Smith (D-Fairview Park) testified before the Ohio House Behavioral Health and Recovery Supports Committee on House Bill (HB) 363, which would expand the powers and duties of the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) to include planning, preparing and providing services during pandemics, natural disasters and other major emergencies.

State Rep. Adam C. Miller (D-Columbus) today praised the House passage of HB 178, his bipartisan bill with Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Loveland), which would regulate water pressure at pools and other water features. HB 178 was introduced after Makenna Day, then seven-years-old, was seriously injured after standing over a water feature. Water pressure injuries can often require surgery and cause lingering medical problems.
