Rep. Adam Miller Praises Grand Opening of Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare
COLUMBUS— State Rep. Adam Miller (D-Columbus) today joined Governor Mike DeWine and other state leaders to celebrate the grand opening of Central Ohio Behavioral Healthcare’s new Twin Valley hospital.
“While this has been a long time coming, this is a great day for Ohio, the people Twin Valley serves, and the workers who make all the difference helping some of our most vulnerable citizens,” said Rep. Miller. “I am proud of the more than 5 years of work that has gone into making this new facility possible. We now have a state of the art facility to address 21st century mental healthcare.“
Rep. Miller played a key role as a member of the House Finance Committee, working with community partners, then Governor John Kasich, and mental health advocates to secure the vital funding of more than $110M for the new facility.
In 2018, House Bill (HB) 529, the state’s $2.6B biennial capital bill included more than $110M to replace the 178 bed Kosar facility at the Hilltop’s Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare Hospital. In 2019, Rep. Miller pushed to have the funding approved by the State’s Controlling Board. And, following years of construction, the hospital will be a key component of the state's efforts to support mental health.
The new state of the art Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare facility will provide recovery-based, comprehensive, quality, cost-effective mental health services to adults with a severe mental illness in a secure inpatient setting. They work collaboratively with mental health centers to link patients with an outpatient treatment team or their own psychiatrist to maintain their progress in their community. The hospital serves patients from 15 counties.
The existing campus, which was built in 1977, will be demolished once construction is complete.
Rep. Miller is the Ranking Member of the House Finance Subcommittee on Public Safety.
