Adam Miller (D-Marble Cliff) was officially sworn in to the Ohio House of Representatives Tuesday as state representative for the 17th House District. Miller, elected to his first House term in November, will serve the people of parts of south and west Columbus, including Franklinton, the Hilltop, Valleyview, Franklin Township, Marble Cliff, Hamilton Township, and slivers of Grove City and Prairie and Jackson Townships.

“I am extremely humbled and honored to join the state legislature as a voice for the people of the seventeenth district,” said Miller. “I am ready to get to work on issues that matter most to our community, particularly helping our residents fight the opioid addiction crisis, expanding veterans’ services, creating better paying jobs for our citizens and providing more meaningful educational opportunities for our children.”

Miller is a former public school teacher, coach, elected school board member and superintendent. As a teacher, Miller led an area Youth to Youth anti-drug mentoring program and organized a community anti-drug parade.

“The South Central Hilltop is ground zero in the fight against opiate addiction. I believe the state has a responsibility to address this public health emergency and serve as a willing partner to concerned area residents, block watch leaders, the Franklin County Opiate Crisis Task Force, Columbus City Council and Columbus Mayor Ginther,” said Miller. “Ohio has made some progress, but we can and must do more to help combat the opioid epidemic in a strategic and unified way. Republican leaders’ recent statements on the urgency of the opioid crisis and its impact on our citizens gives me great hope that we will do just that, in a meaningful and bipartisan way.”

A partner at Taft, Stettinius & Hollister, Miller is a Lieutenant Colonel with over 20 years of service in the U.S. Army Reserve, serving as Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps officer. He is also a combat veteran, having served in Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division in 2004.

Additionally, Miller is an adjunct instructor for the National Defense University and earned his Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School. He is former chair of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Education Law and Military and Veterans Affairs Committees and helped to establish Operation Legal Help Ohio’s statewide pro bono project for Ohio veterans.

The newly-elected lawmaker is active in the community and his profession, serving on a number of boards, associations and groups. He is a fourth generation Hilltop native and currently resides in the Grandview City School District with his wife, Helen, and teenage son, Christopher.
