Rep. Blackshear's bill to designate September as International Underground Railroad Month passes Ohio Senate
COLUMBUS– State Rep. Willis Blackshear (D- Dayton) yesterday announced the Ohio Senate passage of House Bill (HB) 340, which would designate September as “International Underground Railroad Month” in Ohio to honor the legacy and extensive history of the Underground Railroad in Ohio.
“The passage of House Bill 340 will allow us to continuously recognize the sacrifices made by those who used the Underground Railroad and the struggles and hardships felt by those who were enslaved,” said Rep. Blackshear. “This bill will solidify the history and enshrine the legacy of those who fought for freedom in our state and across the country.”
The bill was passed unanimously by both the Ohio House and Senate and now goes to Governor DeWine’s desk to await his signature.
