Rep. Blackshear Announces New Ohio Mobile ID
COLUMBUS - State Rep. Willis Blackshear (D-Dayton) today announced the new Ohio Mobile ID program. The program allows users to port and verify their Ohio-issued driver’s license or state identification card to Apple Wallet so that it can be used at select TSA checkpoints, businesses, apps, and other organizations.
“I’m excited to see Ohio join the growing list of states that offer digital IDs. I have advocated for this policy for a couple years now as it will be a convenient resource for people that want to have a digital copy of their ID, and can help businesses when verifying age and identity,” said Rep. Blackshear.
During the 134th General Assembly, Rep. Blackshear introduced House Bill 724 which would allow the use of a digital driver’s license or State ID card. While the legislation stalled, the Ohio BMV worked with Apple to design and implement the Ohio program which has now been implemented.
