Extreme Legislation Bans Health Care, Medical Decisions with Veto Override & Executive Order
COLUMBUS - State Rep. Willis E Blackshear Jr. (D-Dayton) today denounces the passage of the veto override for House Bill (HB) 68, anti-trans legislation, and DeWine’s proposed care restrictions on gender affirming care.
“Every child in Ohio deserves the freedom to be themselves and grow up in a loving community. Unfortunately, my Republican colleagues in the legislature are hell bent on doing everything in their power to bully and threaten trans kids and their families. They’re perfectly willing to interfere in private family medical decisions or single out the handful of trans athletes, while ignoring the pressing problems facing Ohio. It’s time the legislature got to work on issues like lowering costs and strengthening our schools that will help Ohio families thrive,” said Rep. Blackshear.
HB 68 was passed in both the Ohio House and Senate, but vetoed by Governor DeWine at the end of December 2023.
Governor DeWine issued an executive order on January 5, 2024 that further limits access to care.
