Local Schools Awarded Safe Routes to School Funding

COLUMBUS – State Representative Sara Carruthers (R-Hamilton) announced funding to increase safety measures for students going to and from school in Butler and Hamilton counties. 

Hamilton City School District will receive $250,000, and Maderia City Schools and St. Gertrude School will receive $476,838 through the Safe Routes to School Program. The funding will be used to update sidewalks and curb ramps and install crosswalks with flashing lights to help drivers and pedestrians.

“With the implementation of these safety measures, I hope more children will be encouraged to walk or ride their bike to school,” said Carruthers. “I believe this important to keep our children safe and encourage healthy lifestyle choices.”

The Safe Routes to School Program awarded more than $9.8 million to 45 schools across the state.
