Rep. Brown recognizes Ohio Military Family Month
COLUMBUS – House Assistant Minority Whip Richard D. Brown (D-Canal Winchester) today issued a statement in honor of “Ohio Military Family Month,” which recognizes the unique sacrifices of Ohio’s military families.
“As the proud grandson, son, and father of United States Military veterans, I know both the importance and difficulty of being part of a military family. As August marks Military Families Month, I want to express my sincere thanks to all those who serve, and the families that support that service. I will continue to advocate for legislation to support families of military veterans” said Rep. Brown.
Since the beginning of the 133rd General Assembly, House Democrats have passed a number of bills to support military families, including:
- House Bill (HB) 133 (Weinstein): To grant licensing reciprocity for active duty military families. HB 133 was consolidated into Senate Bill (SB) 7, and was subsequently signed into law in Jan. 2020.
- HB 18 (Crawley): To exempt veteran’s disability severance payments from the state income tax. HB 18 was signed into law in Feb. 2020.
- HB 287 (Russo): To allow reciprocity for Medicaid home and community-based service waivers for the family members of active-duty military when families move to Ohio for military assignment. HB 287 was signed into law in June 2020.
