Rep. Brown, Dems object as House Republicans offer gerrymandered congressional map
State Rep. Richard D. Brown (D-Canal Winchester), Ranking Member on the House Government Oversight Committee, today issued a statement as Democratic committee members objected to a proposed 13-2 congressional map in favor of Republicans.
“The Republican proposal we saw today doesn’t pass the smell test. Looking at the data confirms it. It splits our largest counties and carves up communities. It isn’t compact. It favors Republicans 13-2. Using this gerrymandered map as a starting place gets us off on the wrong foot if Republicans are serious about coming together on a bipartisan, 10-year map. This map doubles down on the same district-rigging Ohioans spoke out against not once, but twice. Voters deserve better.”
