Rep. Brown calls for the immediate resignation of Speaker Householder
COLUMBUS— House Assistant Minority Whip Rep. Richard Brown (D-Canal Winchester) today called for the resignation of Republican Speaker of the House Larry Householder (R-Glenford) following federal charges that he engaged in a $60 million bribery, racketeering scheme. This is the second FBI investigation into House GOP leadership in three years.
“The Speaker must resign his leadership position in the Ohio House immediately. The allegations against him of creating and furthering the largest bribery and money laundering scheme in the history of the State of Ohio are too serious to allow him to continue as Speaker. Ohioans deserve better,” said Rep. Brown. “He is the second Republican Speaker of the Ohio House to be investigated by the FBI in the last three years for corruption, an unnecessary distraction from the important business facing the House of Representatives in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic shock waves it has caused. We have a Republican culture of corruption in the Ohio Statehouse. When corruption is revealed, regardless of party, those involved need to be held accountable. The Speaker has betrayed our trust. He must resign. Now.”
