Rep. Brown applauds Ohio Supreme Court Decision to Toss Republican's Gerrymandered State Legislative Maps
COLUMBUS – Rep. Richard D. Brown (D-Canal Winchester) applauded the Ohio Supreme Court’s 4-3 decision to throw out the Ohio House and Senate legislative maps passed by Republicans last year.
“When Ohioans voted for constitutional reforms in 2015 and 2018, they voted for fair maps and representation. The maps Republicans passed last year are not fair and do not attempt to meet those reforms,” said Rep. Brown. “Today’s Ohio Supreme Court decision is a win for every Ohioan who demanded fair, bipartisan districts that ensure voters choose their elected officials, not the other way around. There’s no reason that we cannot uphold the will of the voters and adopt fair, 10-year state legislative maps.”
The Ohio Supreme Court has given the Ohio Redistricting Commission 10 days to re-draw and enact a map that follows the Ohio Constitution. Once a new map is passed, it must then be reviewed by the Ohio Supreme Court
