Rep. Brown Announces Expanded, Back-to-School Tax-Free Holiday
COLUMBUS – State Rep. Richard Brown (D-Canal Winchester) today announced that the expanded, back-to-school Ohio sales tax holiday starts Tuesday, July 30th through Thursday, August 8th. During the tax-free holiday, there will be no state or local sales or use tax on all tangible personal property that is $500 or less.
“Expanding the Ohio sales tax holiday will help parents, children, and working Ohioans save money,” said Rep. Brown. “Back to school expenses add up and this tax holiday helps to reduce this cost for families.”
In 2018, state lawmakers passed legislation making this three-day, back-to-school sales tax holiday a recurring holiday each year.
In 2024, Am. Sub. House Bill (HB) 33 expanded the three-day sales tax holiday to at least three days that includes the first Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of August each year if a budget surplus exists.
