Bill Placing Automatic External Defibrillators in Schools Passes Health Provider Services Committee
COLUMBUS– State Rep. Richard Brown (D-Canal Winchester) yesterday announced that the House Health Provider Services Committee voted favorably on House Bill (HB) 47, the bill that would place Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in Ohio schools and public recreational facilities.
“I am pleased to see our legislation was voted favorably by the Health Provider Services Committee,” said Rep. Brown. “With Sudden Cardiac Arrest being the leading cause of sudden death in young athletes, this bill ensures we are doing the utmost to take care of the health of our children and communities. I look forward to the bill’s continued movement through the legislature in hopes of getting House Bill 47 signed into law.”
This bipartisan legislation introduced by State Rep. Richard Brown (D-Canal Winchester) and Rep. Adam Bird (R-New Richmond) will require automatic external defibrillators (AED) to be placed in each public school, chartered non-public school, community schools, STEM schools, college-prep boarding schools, and each public recreational facility in Ohio.
HB 47 was voted favorably 11–0 and now awaits consideration on the House Floor.
